FINDING THE COSMIC CONNECTION

This was shared in one of the Whatsapp groups I'm part of. It even has a helpful Hindi translation.

Why don't I believe it?
Firstly, Google is not a reliable authority, it's a search engine. The internet is such a democratic space that anyone can publish anything on it and that doesn't make it reliable. NASA and BBC News are credible sources, but there's nothing on their websites about this. Singapore TV doesn't exist in that exact name. These are just names peppered in a message that warns one of the dire consequences of keeping technology on at a specific time when cosmic rays will play havoc with our lives.

If this was a warning, I'd prefer to get it from an organisation of some authority. Secondly, if it was happening, what are the consequences of radiation? There are no details. Not everything can be shoved under the carpet of 'mysterious phenomena'.

The forward usually does the rounds closer to events like say, a solar eclipse. And, it has already done the rounds of Whatsapp groups and email before with variations of 'cosmo' rays and cosmic rays from Mars.

Here are articles that get a bit technical in disproving this one:

Having said that, I can't think of a better way to meet my end from the 'dangerous rays' heading my way - sipping Cosmopolitans with a loved one, with Ray Charles on the stereo.
