IT'S ONLY BIRDS

This was yesterday's message.

JATAYU Bird which we find in Ramayana found alive in Kashmir near Himalaya.

Couple of points.

Firstly, let's remove all references to the epic and see the bird in the video. It looks like a vulture. I'm not sure if Jatayu from the Ramayana was a vulture and there's mixed information about what it was exactly. But let's for a moment assume Jatayu was indeed a vulture.

Small issue with the story that Jatayu has been found alive. Ravana, according to the Valmiki Ramayana, grievously injured Jatayu, who barely stayed alive until he passed on precious information to Rama. This is the section in Valmiki Ramayana that describes Rama's interaction with Jatayu and Jatayu's death. Yes. Death.

If you believe the video, you don't believe the epic about Jatayu's death. I hear you saying, "Maybe Jatayu was reborn as this vulture."  Sure. Except, that would make Jatayu not a vulture, but a very different legendary bird - the phoenix.

Maybe the epics had a lot of wildlife because personifying them indirectly serves to remind us of their ecological importance and the interdependence of species.

Maybe our energy (and outrage) are better channeled in looking at ways to save the dwindling vulture population rather than simply erect statues of the legendary Jatayu and sharing hoax messages like this one.

  1. Here's an interesting aside- fossil studies have shown evidence of many of the flora and fauna described by Valmiki in the Ramayan. Which goes to show, in my opinion, he did what all of us writers do- use the environment around us when describing a place
